Skai got creative ;D

After what feels like years of saving up, I finally got my new sewing machine!
My old one broke a couple of months back ¬_¬
but in all fairness I did use it practically everyday and it was like 10 years old.

I make/customise a lot of my clothes. Mainly because I hate having the same clothes as other people, and it means I can buy things cheap from markets and charity shops then change them to suit me. And it actually makes me feel like my A Level in textiles was worthwhile!

So my friday night has pretty much consisted of me 'fixing up' and customising a load of old clothes I've collected over the last 2 months of living without a sewing machine!
I've customised a plain short black skirt, by sewing on all sorts of badges, bows and ribbons to the left side, and adding some petticoat material underneath to make it more 'poofy' haha
A mens black and purple lined waistcoat that used to be my grandad's when he was younger, by making it smaller and fitted so it looks like a womens.
And a white 'boob tube' minidress that I found in Tesco for £4, by adding a big blue bow on the chest. I got the idea from this dress on dollydagger.com;

but that costs £39.00!

Overall I've had a lovely night, sitting on my living room floor being a creative owl :)

How come everytime I try using a sewing machine I end up sewing what I'm wearing into what I'm working on
(Ok, I actually only know one who did that, but you get the picture ^-^)

Sounds like you had a great night. Made me think about giving the old maschine another try. If things turn out too strange I'm just going to call it art ;) :P

I want one for the exact same reason as you!! I hate having the same clothes as other people but am too lazy to do much about it! =/

you should get one!
bloody exspensive but worth it when it means you wont have the same clothes as anyone else. You can probably get a cheap one somewhere, I just saved up because Ive had my eye on that machine for ages ha.
Once you get started on one piece, you just kind of move onto another, till youre making all sorts of things!

AND when people say I like your top/skirt ect, and ask you where you got it, I like saying I made it myself insted of trying to think of any shop but the actual one, so they dont buy it themselves!

I tend to just blurt out the shop. =/ I don't even know why!! I don't mind so much if it's from Camden though because there's so much stuff there that people are less likely to have the exact same thing as say if you got it from H&M or some other high street store.

I hate going in Primark too cause everyone seems to go there!

I try not to say the shop incase they go buy the same thing, which has happened before and it really pisses me off.

I find primark really annoying because I like a few of the things in there, but like you say everyone goes and buys the same thing. I cant count how many people I've seen with the gold/green/brown/orange bags from there! It's like Jane Norman bags. EVERYONE had them at one stage!

haha at least I'm not the only one. There was this top I used to love, a girl at work asked where I got it, I told her and she bought the same one! exactly the same! then she wore it to work the same day as me! all i heard all day was
'shes got that top aswell' 'oh youve got the same top'
I really did feel like crying

My friend from school had one but in white [mine was grey] and she was like, "Hey, we have the same top!" and I was like, "Yeah....no yours is white!!!"

....Colours matter.

i probably wouldnt have care so much if it was a different colour, but exactly the same?! and to wear it when i did aswell!?
[well she didnt know i was going to be wearing it but its not the point]
I dont see how anyone can have the cheek to do it really :S

This is why I'm so glad I have a sewing machine :)

I have a sewing machine (well its my mums but thats the same thing in my house) and I keep trying to get my mum to show me how to work it but she never does so Ive got a load of old clothes and a lonely lonely sewing machine its heart breaking.

i started wanting to use one when i was about 7 and would see my mum sewing really quickly and I found it fascinating, then when i was about 12 i asked my nan to show me, and Ive been sewing since. Its really easy to get the hang of once youve started :)
